E.W. Tompkins was established in 1921 by Elbert W. Tompkins Sr. in Albany, New York. For more than 100 years, we have provided professional plumbing and mechanical services to residential, commercial and institutional customers throughout Albany and the Capital Region.

Our company has grown over the years while maintaining our commitment to quality workmanship, professional service, safety and customer satisfaction.

Our History

E.W. Tompkins’ first business contract was dated September 9, 1920, for alterations and heating repairs at the Third Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church in Watervliet, New York. The E.W. Tompkins Company was established in 1921.

In 1936, the company became incorporated and relocated to 22 Market Street in Albany. In 1949, E.W. Tompkins established Sheridan Supply Corporation. The company continued to expand its operations throughout the following decades.

In 1950, E.W. Tompkins purchased 123 Sheridan Avenue, and in 1955, the company purchased 158½ Orange Street for its corporate office. In 1996, E.W. Tompkins purchased 124 and 126 Sheridan Avenue, consolidating its business operations at its current Albany location.

Today, E.W. Tompkins continues to build on more than a century of experience serving customers throughout the Capital Region and Upstate New York.
